Week 38 + 7 days & still counting down

This is my longest wait in my life...

When is my son popping out? Everyday staying at home and wait, is no laughing matter! It almost drived me nutz. At least, if he pops out I have tons of things to do, will have sleepless nights, countless breast feeding to do, tons of cloth diaper to wash... confine at home for the longest time of my life for a month.

Cannot wait to go for my obs. review next monday. NO! Wanna my prince to pop out on his own anytime now!

Anyways ... my life have to go on rite? So decided to do something today:

1. I have booked a movie on INVICTUS by Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon today at 1050pm in Vivocity GV.

2. Will do more laundry washing today after hubby is back from work.

3. Will wash the carpet in the living area.

4. Will read up the instruction manual on the breast pump by Avent.

5. Will set up the electronic stream sterilizer for the milk bottles.

That's all folks. Happy New Year!

Week 38 + 4 days & we are still waiting patiently...

Had my obs. outpatient review today by Prof Biswas at 11 am.

Assessment:
1. Baby still in Left Occiput Transverse (LOT)
2. Baby head still NOT engaged!
3. Did a abdominal scan and showed that my baby indeed still not into the birth canal!

Outcome:
1. Will give my baby another week to engage himself into the birth canal
2. Will need to review again next week on monday 04/01/10 by Prof Biswas if by then I am still not gone into labour
3. KIV C-section on Tuesday 05/01/10.

When the baby is facing out the mother's right thigh, the baby is said to be Left Occiput Transverse (LOT). This position is half way between a posterior and anterior position. It can indicate positive movements towards an anterior position if the baby has previously been known to be posterior (in either direction).

However, with a baby in the Left Occiput Transverse (LOT) position in the pelvis labor may be a bit more painful and slower. To alleviate pain and encourage the baby to continue its rotation towards the anterior positions, you can use several positions in labor:

  • Lunging
  • Pelvic Tilts
  • Standing and Swaying
These positions encourage the baby to move into a more favorable position by opening the pelvis more and providing a bit of help in moving. Ask your doula, labor nurse, midwife or doctor for more suggestions.

Do-It - Yourself Confinement Menu

http://www.makantime.com/confine1.htm
"You don’t have to be smart to be clever"
Food Budget: Approximately S$500-S$1200

1st week

No eggs, no pig liver and no cold plain water

Breast feeding only

No eggs, no pig liver, no cold plain water, no ginger, no sesame oil and no wine (Dom) for the first two weeks.

Papaya or paw-paw is recommended as it is considered a neutral fruit and good for the quality of mother’s milk.

‘Breast-Milk Soup’ - Some recommended that several big slices of de-boned ‘Ngoh-he’ or thread-fin fish be double-boiled with papaya, smashed pepper-corns and ginger to encourage breast milk. The soup must be boiled till all the ingredients are milky and taken hot. It is said to increase the amount of colostrum which is very good for protecting the baby with anti-bodies.

Drinking water

Boiled ginger water with black sugar, red dates and dried longans for the first day or two. Don't drink too much plain water during the confinement period. For breast feeding, put less ginger.

Alternatively, the breast-feeding mother can also have boiled red-date with longans on one day and boiled black-dates with longans on another, until the end of the confinement period which is normally six weeks. Ginger can be omitted completely just in case poor mummy get sore and ‘heaty’ from all that ginger from the food and drinks.

Lean Meat:

Used only lean meat. It can either be sliced or minced. If mince meat is required, minced it at home and not at the butcher's stall.

If buying fresh chicken, refrain from buying male chicken. For the first week, use black chicken thereafter, you may choose to use normal chicken.
